How to improve the quality of life?

Life is only a few short decades; what kind of life is it that we can say we did not come to this world in vain? This is an issue we should take seriously. Maybe we won't have any great achievements in this life, but we should still discuss how to improve the quality of our life.

As human beings, the first thing we have to do is to "fill our stomachs". This is a very realistic issue. If we can't achieve basic survival, then other things will be meaningless. The way of modern people's survival is to "make money", and then use the money to buy the necessities of life, and then they can survive. However, when we are not busy, sometimes we will feel empty; our lives have nothing to rely on, but we have no choice; we can only make ourselves more busy to forget these feelings. In fact, a good quality of life is not only material satisfaction, but also spiritual pursuit. The more we understand the essence of life, the more meaningful we can live and we will not lost in how to live a good daily life, when we suddenly have leisure time.

For spiritual pursuits, I will provide several suggestions here, as a reference for our spiritual practice; maybe these suggestions will be able to help people to have a reference when they encounter the choices of life or daily life.

1. Examine your own life

Sometimes we work all day long and after getting off work, we feel tired and just want to have a good rest; when we get up the next day, we have to rush to work again; we have no free time to think about our life thoroughly. Maybe we can arrange other trivial matters during the vacation, or stop them for a while, give ourselves some alone time, review the process of our life, and think about "what kind of life is meaningful"; after thinking clearly, go back to life, turn these thoughts into motivation and change our previous deficiencies.

2. Don't care too much about success

In modern society, what ordinary people think of as success is to become rich, famous or have power…… etc. But these successes often fail to improve the quality of our lives. Maybe one day, when we really succeed like this, we will find that it is not what we want. Therefore, chasing success in today's society often brings some other pains. Think about it, successful people appear to be brilliant on the surface, but in fact there is another side that is not known by others; therefore, to whether we are successful or not, it is best to treat it with a calm attitude and not care too much.

3. Prepare for death

If a person often thinks that "I also will die one day", then he will cherish his time and life more, and he will not waste time in meaningless fun, and he will be less likely to get lost in the pursuit of fame and fortune.

4. Appropriately care about your own health

Many chronic diseases are related to what we eat every day. We should moderately restrain our appetite and not eat too much; our favorite foods, such as sweets, snacks, cold drinks, etc., should also be controlled in moderation; moderate exercise is also helpful for health. We should pay attention to our health, because only when we are healthy will there be a good quality of life.

5. Don’t take the self too seriously

People who only care about themselves and their own interests all the time have more annoyances, and their thoughts of gain and loss will also make them bear more pressure. Think about it, if our life is spent on "fighting with others and intriguing for our own interests", in fact, in the end, we may win, but we lose the quality of life at the same time.

6. Moderately control desires

Desires make people get lost. For only a moment of happiness, we often pay too much price, and what can this happiness leave behind after our death? Whether it is desire for wealth, sex, food, or fame, we should controll them moderately and not pursued excessively, because desire will bring annoyances; the more things you want, the more annoyances and sufferings will be.

7. Keep morals, do good deeds, and cultivate blessings

Violating morality can make people's minds unsettled, because that's not what humans should do. Therefore, though properly restricting one's own behavior and obeying morality may sometimes be a little inconvenient and uncomfortable, but in the long run, it is good for us. Going a step further, if we can do some good deeds and cultivate blessings for ourselves, we will not only be happier, but our life will also be richer.

Spiritual pursuit is a lifetime thing. Maybe before we die, we are still unable to reach the state which we feel satisfied with, but such pursuit can improve the quality of our life, and we will not get lost in the sea of life and go in the wrong direction.
