How to practice in daily life

As a part of all living beings, we will have annoyances more or less. In addition to the big and small annoyances in life, we also have to experience unavoidable annoyances such as "birth, old age, sickness and death"; because they will trouble us, affect our lives, bring pain and often haunts us, and they cannot be eliminated immediately, so it is called "annoyances". Buddhism believes that if we can be freed from "all" annoyances, we can be called saints; maybe we can not solve problems such as "birth, old age, sickness and death" in a short period of time, but if we can start to solve the annoyances in daily life one by one, then it can be regarded as a kind of practice!

Modern life is busy and stressful. It is inevitable that there will be conflicts between people. So, we become impatient and anxious and often lose our temper and when the situation does not allow us to be angry we become annoyed privately. No one likes to get angry, but we are often unable to control ourselves and can’t do anything about it after it happens; it always happens over and over again and again. How to reduce the annoyance of being "angry"? How can people who are busy and have no time practice in their daily lives? The first thing to do is to maintain the stability of our "mind": whenever we encounter unsolvable tasks, annoying people and things or various kinds of pressures, our "mind" often becomes messy; that makes us easily get angry over little things; however maintaining a stable state of mind at all times can relieve the annoyance of "anger". How? Every morning or every time before you start to get busy, use the method of meditation to calm down your mind, observe your breathing, clear your chaotic thoughts, and then start a busy day, which can increase your ability to resist pressure and your patience in the work of one day. In addition, when anger just begins to arise, you should also be alert to find it, and then immediately find time to deal with it with the method of meditation. After the anger disappears, you can then continue with the task at hand. Secondly, you can start to cultivate your compassion in your spare time. Since "compassion" is the opposite of "anger", if you can have compassion, you will be less likely to lose our temper.

There is also a common annoyance in daily life, which is "desire". I believe that we all have  had the experience of "wanting something, but not getting it or being satisfied", such as: wanting to eat a certain food or having sexual desire, when the desire cannot be achieved immediately, our mind is in a state of annoyance. Moreover, many wrong behaviors originate from our desires: when we want but can't get them, we often use stealing, robbing, and wrong means to solve them, resulting in more pain and annoyance. How to reduce the annoyances caused by desire? How to practice in daily life? Just constantly trying to achieve your desires is not the most ideal method, because not all desires can be achieved within a short period of time, and "desire" will continue to arise again at other times; so, if you want to deal with desires, you should cultivate a habit of "having less desires and easily being contented" in normal times; don't make your desires grow more and more. You should restrain and reduce excessive desires, and remind yourself that "you should be content". When your desires are reduced and become restrained, your annoyances can be alleviated and reduced. Secondly, in your free time, you can think about the point of view of "the world is impermanent" —— nothing in the world is eternal, so the temporary satisfaction and happiness brought by desire cannot last for a long time, and to repeatedly chase desires actually is painful. If you can constantly remind yourself of "the world is impermanent", the annoyances caused by desires can be gradually eliminated.

It can be said that the above two kinds of annoyances have covered most of the annoyances in our daily life. Using these methods to deal with annoyances can make our daily life more stable and smooth. Although modern people are very busy with work and cannot devote too much time to other things, if they can regard daily life as a kind of practice and practice these methods consciously and plannedly, they will gradually find that daily life becomes easier and annoyances also decreased.
