The Dignified Appearance of the Buddha and the State of Becoming a Buddha

The word "Buddha (佛陀)" is transliterated from Sanskrit, and its original meaning is "enlightened one". Its pronunciation is closer to Sanskrit in Taiwanese or English. In Chinese, if the original pronunciation of "佛陀 (fó tuó)" is read "Buddha (bù dá)", it will be relatively close to Sanskrit, but now everyone is used to using "佛陀 (fó tuó)". In fact, knowing the meaning of "Buddha" is more important than correct pronunciation; what is the meaning of "enlightened one"? We often say that the state of the Buddha is "the Highest Perfect Enlightenment". In the spoken words, it means "the one who reaches the highest, really everything-equal, and correct enlightenment in the universe." This state is the most complete and perfect state in the universe. There is no other state that can transcend this state. Such an enlightened person is called a "Buddha".

Buddha has three kinds of "body", namely "Dharma body", "karma body", and "transformed body"; "karma body" is easy to understand, that is, the physical body that we living beings have because of karma, which refers to the body of all living beings (including the Buddha). The "Dharma body (Dharmakaya)" is the "true nature (Reality)" that does not change or disappear and everyone has it originally. It is not a physical body that can be seen or touched. However, because sentient beings are still confused, they cannot know what their own Dharma body is; and, the Buddha has become a Buddha, so he can prove the "Dharma body"; "transformed body" means that the Buddha has supernatural powers because he has become enlightened, and can use supernatural powers to transform out other bodies, which are able to walk, move, speak, and like human beings. The "transformed body" is what the Buddha transformed out to relieve sentient beings.

"Karma body" will die. After the Buddha's Karma body dies, he will enter “No-remained Nirvana'', and will not regenerate other Karma bodies, leaving the cycle of Samsara; "Dharma body" will not change or disappear, no matter whether the physical body dies or not.

All Buddhas have the "Thirty-Two Features", which are the results (effects) obtained by accumulating merit when the Buddha was a Bodhisattva in his previous lives. It is for relieving sentient beings by a dignified appearance after becoming Buddhas; and the thirty-two auspicious and dignified physical characteristics are obtained because of practice.

What is the difference between Buddha and Bodhisattva, Arahant and other saints who have attained the Path? How is he different from other beings? Buddha has "Eighteen Distinctive Characteristics", which are eighteen characteristics that only Buddhas have. In the world, no other saints or sentient beings can do these eighteen things, so they are called "distinctive", which means that The "Eighteen Distinctive Characteristics" can only be possessed by Buddhas. For specific distinctive characteristics, please refer to your own search, and I will not repeat them here. Although we often hear that "Buddha is equal to all living beings", this is from the perspective of "All things have the same Nature". However, for all living beings who have not enlightened the Buddhahood, the Buddha and all living beings are very different, and to say it correctly, The state of a Buddha is inconceivable and undescribable from the point of view of sentient beings; for a Buddha who has become a Buddha, "enlightened" and "un-enlightened" are equal. That is to say, Sentient beings are Buddhas originally; they cannot see their own original Buddhahood (Reality), because they are hindered by their wrong views and attachment. When the obstacles are removed from the beings one day, the Buddha-nature itself will be revealed. Therefore, the king of sutras, the Lotus Sutra, conveys the concept that “everyone can become a Buddha”; that is because all things have Buddha-nature; however, when sentient beings attain Buddhahood, "enlightenment" or "un-enlightenment" will become less important, and they will be able to view all things in the state of "all things being equal" .

If you also want to be like the Buddha, with inconceivable equal wisdom, "deciding to start learning Buddhism" will be a key factor in becoming a Buddha in the future.
