Transformation of mind is a good way to improve pollution
Modern technology is advanced; it has improved our lives, but it has also produced many sequelae. Because humans use fossil fuels in large quantities, a large amount of carbon dioxide is produced; these gases accumulate in the earth’s atmosphere, thus causing the greenhouse effect——the temperature of the earth's surface rises continuously, so the climate gradually become abnormal; heavy rains, snowstorms, and extreme heat become more frequent ; The ice layers of the north and south poles have also begun to melt, and the sea level has risen, which has changed the habitats and patterns of plants and animals. The delicate balance between nature and living things was destroyed, and then the nature began to counterattack humans. The extreme climate caused many deaths, homelessness, and property losses.
In addition, human beings are greedy for convenience: we use many plastic products, which cannot be decomposed in the environment; factories make technological products, people drive vehicles and use various products needed in daily life; manufacturers continuously discharge toxic gases, waste water, and heavy metals. These behaviors pollute the environment in which we live, so people begin to get cancer, chronic poisoning, and diseases caused by the accumulation of heavy metals. The oceans and rivers are full of waste and toxic water, and it is becoming more and more difficult for us to obtain drinking water. Natural ecology is destroyed. Suspended particles in the air cause air pollution and cause more diseases.
From the Buddhist point of view, the root cause of these problems is the greed of humans: human beings are greedy for convenient life, coupled with the commercial model, which encourages people to continuously consume goods. In order to meet the needs of people, business men manufacture products in large quantities for profit. The substances produced during the manufacturing process and the garbage of broken products and discarded garbage will pollute our environment; they are produced by human beings to satisfy their desires and to enjoy a convenient life. Unscrupulous deforestation, capturing marine organisms, and eating large amounts of carbon-emitting livestock, these shortsighted and ignorant behaviors have disrupted the balance between nature and mankind.
The biggest question is whether people are willing to sacrifice some of the convenience, enjoyment and time of life to exchange our health and protect our environment; how to say? For example: Are we willing to go to work by bicycle instead? Are we willing to buy less electrical products that are not very needed? Are we willing to eat less meat and switch to vegetarian food? Are we willing to be less dependent on 3C products in order to reduce the production volume of 3C products? To be more specific, are we willing to live an inconvenient life or a life with less enjoyment for ourselves and the next generation? Such a change is not impossible to achieve. The lives of our previous or previous previous generations are closer to this way of life.
Although it is necessary to sacrifice part of the enjoyment to return to a simple life, it does not mean that such a life is unhappy; it reduces the desires on the material level, but it helps the spiritual practice. Whether the industrial revolution brought blessings or curses to mankind has gradually revealed clues. Buddhism believes that the external environment is caused by the "mind" of all living beings. The current state of the earth that we are currently experiencing together is the common karma of all living beings. "If the mind is pure, the land is pure" means: if the mind of all beings is pure, then the environment in which all beings live will also be pure. Therefore, environmental protection requires not only behavioral changes, but more importantly, spiritual changes: reducing desires, emphasizing morality, and fostering compassion; as the spiritual level gradually rises, external changes will be easily achieved.
We only have one earth; what kind of living environment we want to give ourselves and the next generation depends on which direction everyone's mind is heading!
