How to cultivate blessings for yourself?

Some people are blessed. They always succeed easily in everything. They often get help from kind people and can sustain their lives without much effort. But some people are just the opposite. They will encounter difficulties, obstacles when they want to do anything, and they have bad interpersonal relationships. They need to work very hard to make money to maintain food and clothing. As a Buddhist, I think these situations are closely related to a person's blessings.

Blessed people often have enough food and clothing, do not have to worry about family chores, and live a stable life. Everyone says that such people are "good fate". Why are they so "good fate"? Can we also make ourselves "good fate"? I think that a "good fate" person is likely to have done a lot of good things in his previous life and cultivated a lot of blessings, so these can be in exchange for a carefree, trouble-free life. However, the blessings will also be used up. When a person's blessings are exhausted, gradually, luck will leave him. Therefore, whether we want to escape a life without blessings or to avoid exhaustion of blessings, we should cultivate some blessings for ourselves.

There are many ways to cultivate good blessings. To put it simply, do more good deeds, less bad deeds, and don't do things that are unethical and illegal. When we start to do this, little by little, we will find that we have gradually become "good fate"; even if it is not fulfilled in this life, the blessings can still be accumulated in the next life, and our efforts will never be wasted or in vain.  Here are a few ways to cultivate good blessings:

1. Giving:

"Helping others" is the easiest way to cultivate blessings. For example, if you donate excess money to the poor and needy according to your own ability, you can easily make good causes with these people. Don't think that these poor people have nothing to do with your blessings. They might be your “kind people” in the next life.

2. Believe in cause and effect:

Cultivating blessings is not only a behavioral adjustment, but we must also pay attention to the psychological influence; if we want to cultivate blessings, but do not believe that "good people have good rewards" and "good deeds have good retributions", then that's unreasonable. Planting a good cause will yield a good result, and planting an evil cause will yield a bad result. With the right attitude, we can be at ease and not suffer from gains or losses in cultivating blessings.

3. Persuade others to do good:

If you have the opportunity, tell others the benefits of doing good, or persuade others to do good, you can also cultivate your own blessings. Doing so can create a cycle of goodness and change the atmosphere around our lives; when there are more and more good people in our lives, we can become more and more comfortable and happy.

4. Say things with good:

We often intentionally or unintentionally hurt others when we speak, which is detrimental to our blessings. You should not hesitate to praise when you see others succeed or do good deeds. Praising others for their good places will not make one lose their dignity; mocking others' failures or ridiculing others will not make oneself happy. Additionally, don't lie; after we tell a lie, we may have to tell more lies to explain and cover up, and after lying, we will be afraid of being exposed, which will cause our minds to be uneasy.

5. Recite the Buddha or recite the sutras:

The Buddha and the sutras spoken by the Buddha are the seeds of goodness, which can make people get away from suffering and obtain happiness; With Buddha and Dharma in our mind can help us calm our mind in unexpected ways, and of course can cultivate blessings. If you are busy at work and don't have time, you don't have to spare a lot of time —— When commuting by bus or MRT, or when there are other odd hours, you can recite the Buddha or the shortest sutra —— the heart sutra, to cultivate blessings for yourself. Although the time is short, if you can persevere, the effect is amazing.

6. Not being angry:

Being angry not only has a negative impact on your health, but also detracts from your blessings; if you can be open minded and let go everything, you won't lose your temper with little things. If everyone in life is calm and amiable, we can say it is blessed to be able to live in such an environment.

7. Decrease desire:

Some people think that they are blessed, so they eat precious food every day, drink and have fun every night —— squander their health and time; when the blessing is exhausted, illness and problems will follow. Therefore, we must cherish our blessings and reduce our desires in order to make the blessed life long.

What kind of life we want to live is our own choice; living with "the wisdom of the buddhist doctrines" is the best decision for ourselves in the long run. Stop complaining that you are not as "good fate" like others, as long as you start to cultivate your own blessings from now on, everyone can become "good fate".
